Advertorial

Issues of import, insiders speaking frankly and in-depth, explorations of emergent trends by experts from inside the tent – this is a sample of what awaits those attending ARITA’s 2019 National Conference, scheduled to take place in Melbourne next month.

For the offshore restructuring buffs (and who isn’t?) organisers have a particular treat in the shape of Mohsin Meghji, Managing Partner at M-III Partners and Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) of SEERS, the US retail icon forced to seek Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2018.

Mr Meghji will provide insights into his appointment and contribution to the restructure, as well as his thoughts on taking on similar roles in the Australian insolvent trading and safe harbour environment.

Want more offshore? This conference has you covered.

Australian ex-pat David Kelly, Partner, at PricewaterhouseCoopers, UK will share an equivalent level of insight into the collapse of Carillion, which was one of the largest construction firms in the UK when it filed for bankruptcy on 15 January 2018.

As lead special manager, Mr Kelly will discuss the circumstances leading to the appointment, what the liquidators faced upon appointment and the wide-ranging consequences of Carillion’s collapse, particularly on the UK public sector.

On the local front, Michael Hodges QC, one of the counsel assisting Kenneth Hayne and the Royal Commission into banking and financial services will sit down with Ashurst partner and ARITA immediate past president Ross McClymont to discuss the issues of community expectations in a post-Hayne environment and what that might mean for the insolvency profession.

Meanwhile the emerging community of unorthodox lenders replacing traditional banks will be the focus of a panel discussion featuring Ryan Levin, managing director, property at Wingate, Adrian Loader, founding partner of Allegro Funds Management, and Houlihan Lokey managing director Matthew Tehan. The panel will be moderated by ARITA chief executive officer (CEO) John Winter.

On the economic front former Liberal Party leader and economist Dr John Hewson will opine about Australia’s capacity to resist the next economic shock while AFSA chief operating officer Gavin McCosker will talk about how an effective regulator works across the system they regulate to strike the right balance between competing interests.
