Cor Cordis partner Neil Cussen is striking out on a new career path, joining with former FEG litigation operative Stephen Humphreys to launch a best-in-practice litigation fund targeting claims under $10 million.

Speaking to iNO this week Humphreys confirmed he and Cussen were negotiating how to team up at Clover Risk Funding, though he said they were still tweaking structures and processes ahead of a formal launch as soon as next month.

Humphreys’ Linked In profile was recently updated to show his new role as chief executive officer of Clover Risk Funding, which currently exists as a business name registered by Cussen.

Humphreys said details about the company’s structure were still being worked out.

When iNO contacted Cussen today he wasn’t prepared to go on the record confirming his involvement.

“I’ve agreed to give him (Humphreys) a bit of a hand,” Cussen who remains an equity partner at Cor Cordis said.

He said he first crossed paths with Humphreys when Cussen joined Deloitte in 2006.

Humphreys was a lawyer at the time who joined Deloitte’s insolvency and restructuring team.

He said he was definitely interested in the litigation funding space, adding that he undertook a significant amount of it in his practice.

He also said that before leaving FEG Humphreys had managed some 2,000 files and was “king of the kids” in that space so that if he was going to team up with anyone it would Humphreys.

That said, Cussen also said he wasn’t entirely certain of his next steps. He still had to extricate himself from the Cor Cordis equity partnership and was about to go on two week’s leave.
