May 2027 is a way off but not too soon for the Commonwealth Department of Treasury, which this week began advertising for a new chief executive of AFSA.
Posted on SEEK over the weekend the advertisement invites applications “from suitably qualified persons for appointment as Chief Executive of the Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) and Inspector-General in Bankruptcy”.
Before obtaining clarification from AFSA Media iNO’s first thought was that incumbent CEO and Inspector General in Bankruptcy (IGB) Tim Beresford had either decided not to serve his full term as the most senior bankruptcy officer in the country or was being shown the door.
Beresford was after all appointed in May 2022 for a five year term. Why start advertising the position so far in advance?
AFSA Media however assured us there was nothing to see, saying in a written response to our inquiries that advertising this far out was “Consistent with standard Commonwealth appointment processes”.
“Tim Beresford is not leaving before the end of his current appointment,” AFSA’s media team said.
“The recruitment process currently underway is a standard process undertaken ahead of the expiry of statutory appointments to support continuity and orderly succession planning and an orderly transition between officeholders.”
For any iNO reader interested the salary being offered for whoever replaces Beresford tops the $565,000, which is not too shy of the PM’s $622,000.00 in taxpayer funded compensation.
