Now the official speakers list for AIIP 2025 has been released it’s clear attending the annual Winter conference while skipping the gala dinner would be the equivalent of committing a thought crime, against oneself.
Miss the dinner, miss the opportunity to hear Assistant Treasurer Daniel Mulino, who in his capacity as Minister for Financial Services will provide insights into government thinking on matters of direct relevance to AIIP members such as economic trends, the Federal Government’s attitude to corporate and financial law reform and the more robust approach to collection and debt recovery currently exhibited by the Australian Tax Office (ATO).
To be held at Canberra’s National Museum of Australia on Thursday evening, July 24 the gala dinner will be the social highlight of the AIIP’s two day The Heat is On national conference, held at the Hyatt Hotel in Canberra on July 24 and 25.
The conference will commence with a discussion moderated by BCR Advisory’s John Morgan about Small Business Restructurings (SBR).
Joining the panel will be some of the most active players in the space including Business Reset’s Jarvis Archer, Stratos Legal’s Bruce Pasetti, ATO senior insolvency advisor Gary Busby, Queensland University of Technology associate lecturer Amanda Bull and Safe Harbour specialist Ginette Muller.
Simultaneously AIIP Conference chairman Kathleen Vouris will moderate a workshop and panel discussion about responding to media in a crisis with guest speaker and journalist Michael Willesee Jr.
Other speakers include Macquarie Bank’s Ben Forrester who will present on day one with his ever popular Economic Update.
Following will be a series of TED Talks, starting with LCM Finance portfolio manager Justin Ward who’ll speak about anti-money laundering and because no conference is complete without commentary on artificial intelligence the AIIP organisers have brought in AI strategist and tech consultant Matt Dunn to explain AI’s transformational potential.
Following the conclusion of the TED Talks delegates will have the opportunity to engage directly in panel discussions.
Matt Dunn, ASIC’s senior manager of registered liquidators Carl Sibila and Robin Human Capital principal Aimee Zahorodny will discuss the challenges facing liquidators in a discussion moderated by AIIP board member Shabnam Amirbeaggi.
AIIP past president and conference chief Stephen Hathway will follow, moderating a panel on the construction sector.
Panelists will include NSW Building Commissioner James Sherrard, Ray White Commercial’s national head of research Vanessa Rader and Master Plumbers Association chief executive Shane Martin.
The troubled hospitality and retail sectors will be examined next with Hathway moderating a panel featuring the Australian Retail Association’s legal advisor Olivia Hutchens, Australian Small and Family Business ombudsman Bruce Bilson; chief executive of the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) Luke Achterstraat and Franchise Association board member Peter Knight.
Prominent broadcaster Dr Norman Swan is this year’s keynote speaker, and will kick off proceedings on day two before joining a panel discussion titled Cooling the Temperature/Managing Crisis.
Insolvency practitioners potentially face enormous personal and professional burdens when stakeholders can see no way out.
To be moderated by prominent financial and business commentator Peter Switzer the panel will include Dr Swan, Michael Willesee Jr, Helm Advisory managing partner Stephen Hathway and Bruce Bilson.
The remainder of day two will feature updates from AFSA chief executive Tim Beresford, ASIC executive director – regulation and supervision Peter Soros, ATO assistant commissioner Jilian Kitto, FEG assistant secretary – recovery and litigation Henry Carr, Xcllusive Business Sales CEO Zoran Sarabaca and Piper Alderman partner Thomas Russell.
