In trauma medicine it’s called the golden hour. The sixty irreplaceable minutes following serious injury. If utilised effectively those precious moments represent a patient’s best chance of lasting recovery.

In insolvency, licensed practitioners are the corporate paramedics, first responders required to deal with financial emergency and relied on to know what treatment, if applied in time, will staunch haemorrhaging cashflow or rejuvenate an ailing balance sheet.

Two aspects are key. Timing and preparedness. As to the first, the profession has for years exhorted business owners to seek help sooner rather than later.

As to preparedness, this comes with being informed and will be a dominant topic at the Association of Independent Insolvency Practitioners’ (AIIP) 2026 annual conference scheduled for July 22 to 24 at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra.

“In keeping with the AIIP’s well established conference design aimed at SME IP operators in the commercial space, the conference committee has come up with yet another gutsy program, with content that will not be wasted on anyone wanting to keep ahead in the Australian insolvency specialist space,” AIIP Committee chair Kathleen Vouris said, adding that AIIP 2026 will feature a new segment sure to provoke debate.

“This coming conference has a new segment titled “The Naughty corner” – were the IP’s really naughty or just misunderstood,” Vouris said.

Naughty Corner – drawing heavily on the archives of iNO – will explore egregious examples of knowing misconduct by practitioners along with instances where practitioners who fell foul of regulators without necessarily knowing that their decision making would be characterised as misbehaviour.

A detailed conference program will shortly become available but don’t wait to register. To hesitate is to risk being unprepared. See: AIIP Conference Registration
